North of the city, a large village with an airport, a university science park and a growing number of technical businesses.

Kidlington sits just north of Oxford, between the city and Bicester. It is a large village with its own shopping centre, industrial estates and a commuting population. Its economy has two unusual anchors. London Oxford Airport, formerly Kidlington Airport, is a privately owned general aviation airport and the only ICAO-listed civilian airport in Oxfordshire. It has hosted pilot training since the 1960s and is home to flight schools, business aviation operators and aircraft maintenance firms. Oxford Parkway station, on the Chiltern line to London Marylebone, sits at the village's southern edge.

Just to the west, Begbroke Science Park is owned and run by the University of Oxford, which acquired the site in 1998. It lies about five miles north of the city centre and houses university research groups alongside spin-outs and technology companies, particularly in materials, engineering and related fields.

Around these two sites is a busy village economy along the High Street and Oxford Road, and the neighbouring villages of Yarnton, Begbroke and Woodstock beyond.

Science park companies

Begbroke companies often start inside a university department and move out as they grow. At that point they need a website that stands apart from the department page, speaks to customers and investors, and can carry them through the next few years. That is the core of our work on websites for spin-outs and labs.

A good first site for a Begbroke company usually has:

  • A home page that states the problem and the approach in two sentences.
  • A technology page written in layers, from a plain summary to technical detail.
  • A team page with real photographs and short biographies.
  • News, publications and careers sections the team can update themselves.
  • Careful wording about the university connection, within whatever the company's agreements permit.

We have written a fuller guide in what an Oxford spin-out needs from its first website.

Aviation and engineering

The airport supports a cluster of businesses in flight training, aircraft maintenance, charter and aviation services. These firms usually sell to a specialist audience who want precise detail: aircraft types, approvals, facilities, course structures and how to get started. Flight schools in particular attract international students, so their sites need clear course information, entry requirements, accommodation guidance and fees, written in plain English that reads well for non-native speakers.

Accuracy matters more than usual here. Regulatory approvals and course details change, and an out-of-date page can mislead a prospective student or customer. We set up the content so that these details live in one place and are easy to keep current.

Searches here split three ways. Residents look for everyday services by village name: "Kidlington dentist", "garage Kidlington", "nursery Yarnton". Aviation customers search for a course or service, often from abroad: "pilot training UK", "aircraft maintenance Oxford". Science buyers and investors search for a technology or a company name. Each group should land on a page written for them, which is why we plan the site structure around audiences rather than around the organisation chart.

Village businesses

Kidlington has plenty of everyday businesses: garages, shops, cafés, pubs, dentists, nurseries, gyms and trades. Their customers are mostly local, so the website needs to be quick, clear and easy to find in nearby searches. We keep these builds small and affordable, and make sure the owner can change opening hours or prices without help. Good copywriting makes a bigger difference than people expect: a page that says plainly what you do, where and when, wins more calls than a clever slogan.

Commuters and new homes

With Oxford Parkway close by, many people are commuting from Kidlington to Oxford and London. Commuters bring demand for childcare, fitness, home services and evening hospitality, and many of these businesses need a first proper website. We are happy to start small and grow the site as the business does.

Industrial estates

Kidlington's business areas, including Langford Lane beside the airport, where Oxford Technology Park has been developed, host a mix of light engineering, distribution, vehicle services and trade suppliers. Their customers are other businesses and tradespeople who want stock, prices, delivery areas and opening hours without fuss. A clear, fast site with a well-organised product or service list does the job.

We also work with businesses in Yarnton, Woodstock, Islip, Bladon and the villages along the A44 and A4260.
